Erasmus: Study Abroad in Strasbourg
Students | Erasmus | 22/12/16
Strasbourg has a population of over 271,000 people and it's known for its massive cathedral and charming little streets. The city of Strasbourg attracts a lot of tourists, especially from November to December, for its Christmas market, which is one of the largest Christmas markets in France. People come from all over the world to discover the charm of the market and purchase all sorts of goods from the little wooden stalls.
Strasbourg is known for its large central island which is surrounded by the River Ill, which adds to the beauty of the city. Talking a stroll along the river when the sun is setting is one of the many gems of this city. Visit the little France area of Strasbourg, and experience what its many shops and restaurants have to offer. There are loads of old buildings to explore, and there's no shortage of bars and entertainment either! Also, if you want to take in the full scenery of the city, why not climb up the cathedral, where you can enjoy a superb panoramic view of the city and its surroundings.
Good tips for students
With more than 52,000 students in graduate courses (both French and international students), it's safe to say that Strasbourg is a student city. Living in Strasbourg, is the perfect opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the culture and experience the charm of the city. Luckily for students, the rent prices in Strasbourg are very reasonable, compared to other French cities, where the average rent in the city centre is generally very high.
If you want to go out for a few cheap and cheerful drinks, check out the Lantern, a brewery which produces beer and there's also a happy hour all day on Wednesday! In the centre of Strasbourg, the Brasseur is also a great place for a few drinks. You can also get cheap deals on Flammekueches and beer which are brewed on site. The Alchimiste is another nice, cosy bar which is worth trying, or if you're in to a more modern setting, then the Code Bar is the place to go.
